“Carousels – In the Round”, by Pep Ventosas.
‘My work is about finding new visual experiences in photography. With the series ‘Carousels – In the Round’, I walked in a circle around each of the carousels, shooting repeatedly along the path. Then the photographs were overlaid and refined to discover what becomes of the orbit. One may think they are looking at a single carousel in each image, but it is actually as many as several dozen separate shots of the same carousel, blended together — the carousel and its environment, in the round.’
It began with the forgings of the great rings. Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above else, desire power. For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived, for another rings was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a master ring, to control all others. And into this Ring, he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life. “One Ring to rule them all”
By Tim Nobel & Sue Webster, taking piles of rubbish as abstract art works is something that I perhaps wouldn’t ordinarily find as interesting as these pieces, but there’s just something about the shadow images that are almost secret. The fact that you would never know the sculptural figures were there without the beams of light makes them even more appealing.
